Bottles of Rosé

The consumption of Rosé has increased globally. So, what is this special class of wine?

How is Rosé made?

Rosé wine is neither white nor red wine. It is the colour of the black grape skins that provide the red tinge to white wine during the maceration process of wine making. The shades of pink vary with various flavours and aromas.

Red wine juice is generally white in colour, and it is the skins that impart the red colour during maceration. There only a few black grapes that provide red juice. In some cases, various varietals are combined to form a Rosé blend. Occasionally red and white wines are mixed together for a Rosé.

In South Africa the naturally sweet Rose wine has been very popular. Brands like Four Cousins, Robertson, 4th Street are very popular in South Africa, however a huge take off of dry Rosés are also appreciated.

There are more Rosé wines available in retail stores now than ever before so what are you waiting for. Try them out!
